The 9th arrondissement around Rue La Fayette and Cadet is a lively, well-established residential and business neighborhood, with caf\u00e9s, restaurants, shops and offices, and people out and about throughout the day and evening.<\/p><p>I regularly welcome women traveling alone, as well as mothers and daughters and groups of friends, and guests often tell me they feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood. The building itself is also very secure, with two coded entry doors before you reach my home.<\/p><p>As in any major city, I recommend taking the usual precautions, especially late at night. One useful distinction: Gare du Nord, a 10\u201315-minute walk away, is a very busy railway station, and its immediate surroundings can feel considerably less pleasant, particularly at night.
